What is the difference between the various Attribute Collection Methods?

Introduction
There are 4 different Collection Methods within an Attribute's Advanced Setup under the 'Settings' tab. The method selected determines the manner in which the Standard data entry pane in the Data Collection module functions. The options are:
  1. Totals
  2. Add
  3. Tally Up
  4. Tally Down
Totals
This option configures the Standard pane to accept the total number of defective units or defects as a single entry. 

Say an operator inspects a lot and counts two defects in the first part, three in the second, and none in the rest of the lot. With this Totals collection method, if defective units are being counted, the operator enters 2 and makes no further entries. If defects are being counted, the operator enters 5 and makes no further entries.

Add
This option configures the Standard pane to accept subtotals of defective units or defects and, once all subtotals are collected, add them. 

Say an operator inspects a lot and counts two defects in the first part, three in the second, and none in the rest of the lot. With this Add collection method, if defective units are being counted, the operator enters 1 after the first part is inspected, 1 after the second part and makes no further entries. If defects are being counted, the operator enters 2 after the first part is inspected, 3 after the second and then makes no further entries. In both cases, once the inspection for the lot is complete, the subtotals are added.

Tally Up
This option configures the Standard pane to accept entry of individual defective units or defects and, with each entry, increment a tally by one.

Say an operator inspects a lot and counts two defects in the first part, three in the second, and none in the rest of the lot. With this Tally Up collection method, if defective units are being counted, the operator presses the after the first part is inspected, presses the after the second part is inspected and presses the no more for the lot. If defects are being counted, the operator presses the when the first defect in the first part is detected, presses the when the second defect in the first part is detected, presses the when the first defect in the second part is detected and so on for the remaining defects in the second part. In both cases, each time the is pressed, the tally, which begins at 0, increments by one. The ending tally then is 2 if defective units are being counted and 5 if defects are being counted.

Tally Down
This option configures the Standard pane to accept entry of individual defect-free units and, with each entry, decrement a tally by one.

Say an operator inspects a lot and counts two defects in the first part, three in the second, and none in the rest of the lot. With this Tally Down collection method, if defective units are being counted, the operator presses the after the third unit is inspected and after each remaining unit. This is because, although in the end it is the number of defective units that are being collected, that number is arrived at by subtracting the number of defect-free units from the number of units in the lot. The count then that is displayed in the Standard pane starts with the number of units in the lot and decrements by one each time the is pressed. This Tally Down option does not apply if defects are being counted.
