Introduction: During the initial setup and installation of WinSPC, a database user is created so that the WinSPC client can communicate with its backend database. By default this user is recomended to be named 'JOHNDOE', per Phase 1 in the WinSPC Installation & Configuration Guide. Alternatively, you can choose any database user name you like, such as that the name fits within the naming rules of your chosen database platform, and that the user name you choose for WinSPC does not already exist in your database.
In the event that you need to change WinSPC's database user, you will need to use Change Server Login.
What is Change Server Login?
The Change Server Login feature in WinSPC allows the Admin user to change which database User Name and Password that WinSPC uses to log into the WinSPC backend database. The Change Server Login must be changed in WinSPC before modifying the database owner and password directly.
NOTE: This utility does not change the User Name and password in the database, but changes which account WinSPC will use to login to the database, nor does it change the WinSPC Admin user’s password.
How do I use Change Server Login?
Log in to WinSPC as the Admin user.
Select 'Tools' from the menu bar and click on 'Change Server Login'.
In the Change Server Login dialog box that is displayed, enter the required information:
Password used for the Admin account in the 'Administrator Password' message box.
User Name and Password for the database server in the 'New Server Login' message box.
Click on the OK button.
Close out of WinSPC
Using you database platform's software tool package, change WinSPC's database owner and password.
Login to WinSPC and verify that the change was successful.
