Applies to
WinSPC 8.2, WinSPC 8.3, WinSPC 9.0

New to WinSPC version 8.2 is the ability to exclude a range of subgroups from calculations from within the Variable Analyzer window.  Conversely a range of subgroups, that has been excluded, can be un-excluded.  This is a quick and easy way to exclude subgroup data from statistical calculations with a few clicks of the mouse.

  1. Log in to WinSPC as the Admin user or a user that has Administration permissions to the Variable Analyzer.
  2. In the Administrator window, expand the Parts/Processes node in the Tree pane, and locate the Variable.
  3. Right-Click on the variable and select Query, to open the Variable Analyzer window.

Exclude...  To exclude a range of subgroups from statistical calculations (Figure 1), use the following steps:

  1. Right-click and hold inside the chart area from within the Variable Analyzer window.
  2. Drag to the right, selecting the subgroups to be excluded.  Release the mouse button.
  3. Select Exclude… to remove the selected subgroups from statistical calculations.  Exclude subgroups will be denoted by a red diamond with a black “X” marker above the subgroup.

NOTE:

Excluded subgroup markers only appear if the variable is in its Default Subgrouping State.  A Default Subgrouping State button has been added, which automatically returns a variable’s data to its default subgrouping state. When the Default Subgrouping button is activated (icon will have a blue background, depending on display settings), the variable is in its default subgrouping state. Whenever a change is made which has the potential to cause a variable’s data to leave its default subgrouping state, the button is deactivated (icon will have a gray background, depending on display settings).

Unexclude...  To unexclude (include) a range of subgroups for statistical calculations (Figure 1), use the following steps:

  1. Right-click and hold inside the chart area from within the Variable Analyzer window.
  2. Drag to the right, selecting the subgroups to be un-excluded.  Release the mouse button.
  3. Select Unexclude… to include the selected subgroups for statistical calculations and removing the exclude marker.

Exclude or Un-exclude using the Ctrl key to define a X-axis & Y-axis selection, use the following steps:

  1. Press and hold the Ctrl key down on the keyboard.
  2. Right-click and hold inside the chart.
  3. Drag to the right, selecting the area to be Excluded/Un-excluded and release the mouse button and Ctrl key..
  4. From the popup menu, select Exclude… or Unexclude...

Exclude or Un-exclude a single subgroup of data, use the following steps:

  1. Left-click on the subgroup to be excluded/un-excluded inside the chart area from within the Variable Analyzer window (or from the Data Collection screen).
  2. In the Data Point Viewer (see Figure 2), Left-click the checkbox to place or remove the check mark in Exclude from calculations checkbox near the bottom center of the window.  A check mark in the checkbox will exclude the subgroup data from statistical calculations, and no check mark (unchecked) will include the subgroup data for statistical calculations.
