variable A variable is a characteristic of a part or process that can be measured quantitatively. For example, height, temperature, and viscosity are all variable characteristics. Variables are represented in WinSPC by a 'V' inside a green diamond. Variables use chart types such as 'X-bar & R', 'X-bar & S', or 'X & MR'.
Variable Analyzer WinSPC tool that allows a user to analyze a single variable against specific data, based on active data filters. Can be launched by double-clicking a variable in a data set in any tab, by right clicking on the variable and selecting the 'Query' option in the Administrator Tree, or from within data collection mode for a variable by selecting the 'Data Sets' button and selecting 'Current characteristic'.
